Aviation Calculators & Tools for Pilots

26 free E6B-style calculators, a live METAR and TAF decoder and airport lookups for pilots, student pilots and aviation professionals in the US, UK, Europe, Canada and Australia, with inHg/hPa, feet/metres and °C/°F options.

Airport Code LookupFind ICAO and IATA airport codes.METAR & TAF WeatherGet current airport METAR and TAF reports.Flight Time CalculatorEstimate distance and average flying time.Nautical Miles ConverterConvert NM, km, miles and metres.QNH hPa / inHg ConverterConvert altimeter pressure units.Feet / Metres ConverterConvert aviation heights and distances.UTC / Local Time ConverterConvert UTC to local offset with date rollover.Coordinate ConverterConvert common latitude and longitude formats.Crosswind / Headwind CalculatorCalculate runway headwind, tailwind and crosswind components.Density Altitude CalculatorDensity altitude is pressure altitude corrected for non-standard temperature: at a 5,000 ft airport on a 30 °C day it is about 8,000 ft, so the aircraft performs as if it were 3,000 ft higher.Pressure Altitude CalculatorPressure altitude = field elevation + (29.92 − altimeter setting in inHg) × 1,000 ft, so a 2,000 ft airfield with an altimeter of 29.42 inHg has a pressure altitude of 2,500 ft.True Airspeed CalculatorTrue airspeed is calibrated airspeed corrected for air density: 100 kt CAS at 8,000 ft is about 113 kt TAS at standard temperature, and the 2% per 1,000 ft rule of thumb gives 116 kt.Wind Correction Angle & Ground Speed CalculatorThe wind correction angle is how far you turn into the wind to hold your course: WCA = arcsin(wind speed ÷ TAS × sin(wind angle)), so a 20 kt direct crosswind at 120 kt TAS needs about 10°.Aviation Fuel CalculatorFuel required = flight time × fuel burn + taxi + reserve; for example, a 2-hour flight at 9 US gal/h with a 45-minute reserve needs about 25 gallons plus taxi fuel.Weight and Balance CalculatorCentre of gravity = total moment ÷ total weight, where each item’s moment is its weight × arm; a loading is legal only if both total weight and CG fall inside the envelope in your POH or AFM.Descent Rate & Top of Descent CalculatorStart down about 3 NM for every 1,000 ft to lose and fly a descent rate of roughly ground speed × 5 ft/min, so 120 kt on a 3° path needs about 600 ft/min.Cloud Base CalculatorCumulus cloud base is roughly 400 ft above ground for every 1 °C between temperature and dew point, so a 10 °C spread gives a base near 4,000 ft AGL.Flight Hours Calculator – Decimal & Logbook TimeTo log flight time in decimal hours, divide the minutes by 60: 1 h 45 min = 1.75 h, and one tenth of an hour (0.1) = 6 minutes.Sunrise, Sunset & Civil Twilight CalculatorThis sunrise and sunset calculator gives sunrise, sunset, civil twilight and day length for any place and date.Holding Pattern Entry CalculatorFind the direct, teardrop or parallel holding entry.Climb Gradient CalculatorConvert ft/NM or percent to feet per minute.ISA Standard Atmosphere CalculatorISA temperature, pressure and deviation at any altitude.Time, Speed & Distance Calculator (E6B)Leg time, ground speed, fuel and ETA.Aviation Fuel Weight ConverterAvgas and Jet A-1 litres, gallons, kg and lb.1 in 60 Rule CalculatorOff-course track error and heading correction.Aircraft Dispatcher Practice Test129 FAA ADX practice questions with answers and references.

Which aviation tool do you need?

These tools cover the quick checks pilots, students, dispatchers and aviation enthusiasts make before and during flight planning. They are reference aids only. Always use official briefing sources, current charts and your operator’s procedures for real flight decisions.

  • Airport Code Lookup turns a city or airport name into its ICAO and IATA codes, or the reverse. Use it when a booking shows DXB but a weather briefing needs OMDB.
  • METAR & TAF Weather fetches the latest raw reports from AviationWeather.gov and decodes wind, visibility, cloud, temperature and QNH into plain language.
  • Flight Time Calculator estimates great-circle distance and air time between two airports for a typical aircraft type. Real block times are longer because of taxi, routing, winds and air traffic control.
  • Crosswind & Headwind Calculator splits a reported wind into headwind and crosswind components for a chosen runway, so you can compare it with your aircraft’s demonstrated crosswind.
  • QNH, Feet/Metres and Nautical Miles converters handle the unit changes you meet when moving between ICAO, US and metric publications.
  • UTC / Local Time converts Zulu times in NOTAMs, METARs and schedules to a local offset, including date changes across midnight.
  • Coordinate Converter switches between decimal degrees and degrees-minutes-seconds used on charts and in flight plans.

Good habits

Check the observation time on every METAR, because reports are usually issued every 30 or 60 minutes. Confirm whether a wind is reported in true or magnetic degrees before working out crosswind. Treat every estimate here as a cross-check, not a replacement for your flight planning software or briefing.

Flight planning and performance tools

  • ETP and PNR Calculator finds the equal time point and the point of no return for long over-water or remote legs, from distance, groundspeeds and safe endurance.
  • Mach Number Calculator converts Mach to true airspeed and back, from outside air temperature or flight level and ISA deviation.
  • Turn Rate, Bank Angle and Radius gives the bank for a standard-rate turn at any speed, the turn radius and the load factor.
  • Glide Distance Calculator works out engine-out glide range from height above the ground, glide ratio and wind.
