Flight Time Calculator
This flight time calculator estimates the distance and average flying time between two airports, using airport names, IATA or ICAO codes.

How the airport-to-airport flight time estimate works
This calculator is intended for travellers as well as aviation users. Instead of asking you to know the distance or groundspeed, it lets you select two airports and a representative aircraft type, then estimates direct distance, air time and a practical block-time range. The revised model applies a simple directional wind allowance so long westbound sectors are not systematically underestimated.
How to use it
- Enter the origin airport by name, IATA code or ICAO code.
- Enter the destination airport the same way.
- Choose a representative aircraft type or leave the automatic option selected.
- Calculate to see distance, estimated air time and a block-time range, then compare with the airline schedule if you are planning a real journey.
Method and calculation
The distance is calculated from the latitude and longitude of the two airports using a great-circle method. The flying-time estimate then applies representative commercial-aircraft speeds plus a small allowance. It does not know the exact route, aircraft, wind or air-traffic restrictions for a particular flight.
Worked example and practical notes
Two flights between the same cities can have different scheduled times because winds, runway configuration, routing, congestion and aircraft performance differ. A strong headwind can lengthen an east-to-west flight while a tailwind may shorten the return sector.
Use an airline timetable or official operational planning system when you need a specific scheduled or dispatch value.

Frequently asked questions
Is the result the airline scheduled time?
No. It is an estimate based mainly on great-circle distance and representative cruise speeds.
Why can real flights take longer?
Routing, winds, aircraft type, air traffic control, departure and arrival procedures, congestion and operational factors can change the actual time.
Can I enter airport names instead of codes?
Yes. You can search by airport name, IATA code or ICAO code.
What distance does the tool use?
The calculator uses the great-circle distance between the latitude and longitude of the two airports.
