About USFITools
USFITools is an independent aviation-focused educational platform developed and maintained by KZHEL, with a background in the aviation field and a commitment to making aviation knowledge, calculations and learning resources more accessible. The site offers free aviation calculators, a live METAR and TAF decoder, an airport code search, a flight dispatcher practice test and plain-English aviation guides. No account is needed to use any of them.
Our mission
Aviation calculations and weather codes can look intimidating, and many online tools give an answer without showing how it was reached. USFITools aims to make these subjects easier to understand: each calculator shows its method and a worked example, supports both US and ICAO units, and links to a guide that explains the concept. Where a guide describes a rule, it names the authority it comes from, such as the FAA, ICAO, EASA, UK CAA, Transport Canada or CASA, because rules differ between countries.
What we offer
- METAR and TAF decoder: the latest reports for any airport, decoded into plain English with observation times.
- Airport ICAO and IATA code search by airport name, city or code.
- Crosswind and headwind calculator, including gust components.
- Density altitude and pressure altitude calculators.
- Fuel tools: the aviation fuel calculator and the fuel weight converter for avgas and Jet A.
- Flight planning tools: flight time, time, speed and distance, wind correction angle, true airspeed, climb gradient, descent planning, holding pattern entries and weight and balance.
- Time and unit converters: UTC (Zulu) and local time, QNH hPa and inHg, nautical miles and feet and metres.
- The aircraft dispatcher practice test: 129 questions with explanations and references.
- Aviation guides on weather, altimetry, performance, navigation, flight planning and airport operations.
About the creator: KZHEL
USFITools is developed and maintained by KZHEL, an independent aviation-focused publisher with a background in the aviation field. The platform focuses on making aviation-related calculations, technical concepts and educational resources easier to understand and access. KZHEL is responsible for the content of the site, including corrections.
Content and calculation accuracy
- Guides are researched from official and established publications, such as the FAA Pilot’s Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge, the Aeronautical Information Manual, 14 CFR, ICAO documents and the rules published by other aviation authorities. Each guide lists its sources at the end.
- Calculator results are compared with hand-worked examples and with values from those references before a tool is published, and again after changes.
- Inputs are checked so that impossible values produce a clear message instead of a misleading result.
- Live METAR and TAF data is retrieved from AviationWeather.gov when you search; airport data comes from the open OurAirports dataset. USFITools does not create or edit weather reports.
- When a guide is reviewed or corrected, its “last reviewed and updated” date changes.
Educational and safety disclaimer
USFITools provides general educational and planning resources. It does not replace official aeronautical publications, current operational information such as weather briefings and NOTAMs, approved aircraft documentation, regulatory guidance or professional judgement. Calculators use simplified models and are for training and cross-checking only. Read the full disclaimer.
